Bereavement and loss

Death is a part of life. Bereavement is not an illness. ‘Abnormal reactions to abnormal situations, are normal.’

The loss you are experiencing may not be related to death. There are many forms of loss, and no right or wrong way to respond to any event. If you are finding loss hard to navigate, contact me.

Substance and Alcohol Dependence

I understand the complexities of substance and alcohol dependence. I know the pull of using a substance as a coping mechanism for difficult life events or for emotional regulation.

Anxiety

Anxiety can be disabling. Gaining an awareness and understanding of what anxiety means to and for you can be enabling. With new awareness of what your anxiety is related to, you can gain understanding, and are enabled to make new choices, if you would like.

Depression

Depression is defined as persistent low mood. This can be accompanied by physical symptoms such as loss of or increased appetite, lethargy, loss of motivation, this list is not exhaustive. Symptoms are indicative of your underlying process and psychotherapy is an excellent tool for helping you navigate this process.

Disordered Eating

Understanding the root of your relationship with food is essential for your recovery.

Traumatic experience

Traumatic experience is an experience during which physically or psychologically you were unable to escape. This can mean different things for different people. The way in which a traumatic event or experience was responded to can be as significant as the time itself. You may have a very different experience of an event or experience compared with another who experienced a seemingly similar situation.

Trauma informed practice is vital when working with traumatic experience. I have undergone extensive trauma trainings, and I continue to engage in yearly Continuing Professional Development.

Chronic Pain

Chronic pain is pain that lasts three months or more. Living with chronic pain can impact individuals significantly. You may feel you have a new identity since pain has been a significant part of your life.

Being curious about the link between mind and body can be transformative in finding release from chronic pain. Letting yourself become aware of experience and affect does not dismiss the pain you are living with.

If you have recently overcome a period of chronic pain and struggle to readjust to understanding and assimilate your experience, gaining awareness of your emotional process can help you make sense of your somatic symptoms and understand your whole Self.

Please contact me if you’d like to discuss how you are feeling. Often, how you feel doesn’t fit into boxes and headings, a free initial consultation can help you understand whether talking therapy is right for you, and whether I will be the right person for you to work with.
