Transactional Analysis

Time and time again, research has shown that the therapeutic alliance, the relationship between you and me, is the biggest determining factor of therapeutic success. I endeavour to foster a calm and welcoming environment within which you are able to explore what you need.

Transactional Analysis (TA) is an approach to psychotherapy which provides a solid foundation for therapeutic work. TA is a humanistic therapy, which means the theory is based on the understanding that you have within you the knowledge and understanding of how to grow and reach your full potential. You and I work together in collaboration.

TA is a theory of personality and communication. The key principle of TA is gaining an understanding of the way in which individuals have interacted with their environments in order to survive; how we have perceived our environments and how these perceptions have shaped our personalities and ways of communicating and behaving in the world to this day.

As young individuals we adapt in order to survive our environments. When we find ourselves in distress, we are often realising that the adaptations we made in order to survive are no longer useful, or have become maladaptive in our current environment.

How individuals communicate and behave on an interpersonal level, through relationship, is a good indicator of our personality adaptations and of how we have learned to interact in order to survive. This can be observed through interactions both inside and outside of the therapy room, and can be understood through the therapeutic relationship. Change can only happen in relationship, and this is why the building of the therapeutic and working alliance between you and me is so important for successful therapy.

As a TA practitioner I understand that interpersonal interaction is vital for emotional wellbeing; human to human connection with an Other who is able to be with in an I’m OK, You’re OK relationship, without judgement.
